What is a reasonable prediction?
We are learning to make predictions before and during
reading.
In order to make a reasonable prediction the following must
be included:

1. An educated guess (What is going
to happen in the story? What will happen next?)
Ø
Ex: I predict
that this book will be about a fox who goes to the dentist.
2.
Proof
from the text (images, words, title)
Ø
Ex. I know this because I see the word doctor in the title and I see in the picture a mouse looking at the fox’s teeth.
3.
Prior
knowledge (what I already know about the topic of the book)
Ø
Ex. I think
the mouse is a dentist because I know
doctors wear white coats and dentists are doctors that look in your mouth and I
see that the mouse is looking at the
fox’s teeth.
FINAL:
I predict that this book will be about a fox who goes to the
dentist. I know this because I see the word doctor in the title and I see in the picture a mouse looking at
the fox’s teeth. I think the mouse is
a dentist because I know doctors wear
white coats and dentists are doctors that look in your mouth and I see that the mouse is looking at the
fox’s teeth.
